I believe in fate, but I also believe in creating your own destiny (naks!) so when fate brought a 50% scholarship to Blogworthy my way, I made it my destiny to join.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Blogworthy is a blogging and personal branding workshop by Arriane Serafico of Wanderrgirl.com. The first one happened earlier this year, which I found out too late about and was too old to qualify for. It was a ray of sunshine when I read that Arriane was conducting a 2nd workshop and there was no age limit this time.
I was so nervous and excited during the days before the workshop. In fact, I was so excited that I got there an hour early. And I’m rarely early!
Made up of two workshop days, the first day of Blogworthy focused on personal branding and making a blog post “good”. Arriane also shared some technical tips regarding SEO, plugins, and hosting.
As I had expected, I had the most fun during the personal branding exercises because they were the most challenging. How do I step away far enough from myself to see what possibly makes me unique as a person and as a blogger? It was also a great way to meet new and interesting people. I think I started really stepping out of my shell when I got to talk to a preschool owner and a homeschooling mom, reminding me of how much I value education.
The best thing I got out of Day 1 was finally having a clearer focus on what I want the Stars for Dreams blog to be. This is definitely a good way to contribute positively! 🙂
After getting our fill of food and talk during lunch, we got to listen to Maine Manalansan talk a bit about her online magazine Stache, and Bernadette Lim of BC Fragrance share the secrets of creating and appreciating fragrances.
I don’t wear cologne or perfume but I found myself really fascinated with Bernadette’s presentation just because she was so passionate about fragrances. I could see why Arriane invited her for Blogworthy. If a blogger has that much passion and commitment to share a good message, or just to share something she loves, that’s already a good start.
And if all that wasn’t enough, we also got a taste of three yummy flavors from Pinkerton. I think the group favorite was the cake batter with sprinkles. I loved it because it was so creamy and it wasn’t as sweet as I had expected. It was definitely like eating real cake batter.
And of course, I know a lot of people are curious about what else we got as freebies, so here they are!
Thank you to Designs of Artisan (Hi April!) for the green notepad, Hey Kessy (Hello Mansy!) for washi tapes and stickers, Celebrations Party Central for the pink pail, BC Fragrance for a personalized scent, Hodge Podge for Blogworthy-themed accessories, and Punchdrunk Panda for the super cute laptop case.
Super cool, right?
Day 2 of Blogworthy will be all about Photoshop tricks. I work a lot with Adobe programs so I’m really excited about what new tips I can learn from Arriane. There’s also a mini photoshoot that’s already making me nervous because I don’t really like being in front of the camera but I’m going to give it my best. Maybe I’ll bring a giant pair of sunnies to hide behind haha. And last but not the least, I’m gearing up for my one-on-one consultation with Arriane herself because I really want to make this piece of internet land better.
I’ll be posting some realtime Blogworthy photos on my Instagram so if you have it on your mobile too, come find me. Just search for lorraelena.
I can’t wait for Saturday!
