When the husband surprised me with a staycation for our 3rd wedding anniversary, I was a bit doubtful that we’d be able to pull it off. We’ve been having a hard time with the new baby in our lives, and I didn’t want to waste money that would be more appropriately used to buy practical things. Like diapers!
But the husband convinced me THAT WE DESERVED THIS break, so I just closed my eyes and got myself excited for this new experience.
Despite the logistics challenge and figuring things out for the first time, I’m glad we went for it. It was a great way to spend some quality time together, and to let Oliver experience another first. He won’t remember it, for sure, but we’ll have lots of pictures to show him when he’s older. Hola! Are you still on a summer groove? I’m not really still stuck to summer, maybe my least favorite season too, but my favorites are! Because they’re delayed haha!
June was a really fun-filled month though, despite the intolerable heat and humidity. We got to spend the first few days of that month in Singapore to attend the Asian Festival of Children’s Content, where the husband was a panelist for two sessions and gave a comics workshop as well.
April was all sorts of cray (spilled over to May too), hence the delay in uploading my monthly favorites. I was actually done with the canvas a couple of weeks ago but couldn’t find the time to write the blog for it. So much fail!
I’m not going to waste this short amount of free time though, so here we go!
Over the Holy Week break, I joined my family on a trip to Hokkaido in Japan, hitting cities such as Sapporo and Otaru.
I didn’t really plan to do any art supplies shopping because it was a guided tour but I still managed to find some treasures, both ones that I’ve been looking for and ones that I didn’t expect I’d even see there.
I’m headed for a quick trip soon, and as per usual, I bring a bunch of my art materials.
It used to be that I’d bring bulky items with me and never get to use them, but this time around, I’m gathering my smallest materials and bringing just the essentials. And yes, try my best to actually journal my way through the trip.
December 2014 didn’t bring a lot of good things (as some of you may already know) so it was hard to pick my favorites that month, so I thought I’d combine it with January 2015’s favorites. January was definitely much kinder, allowing me (and I’m sure a lot of others) to refresh and look forward to the new things that a new year brings.
October was such a fun month, wasn’t it? It was so much fun that I got inspired to make that month’s favorites canvas a colorful one! I also thought it would be great to include a jack-o-lantern head as the first O for the header.
And by chance, I was painting this at Epicurious in Shangri-La Mall where they sold tiny pumpkins. Of course, I took that as a chance to make this photo extra special.

This post is long overdue, and honestly, it took so long because I wasn’t sure how to start writing it. There was an internal struggle that I had to figure out first before being able to sit down and focus on what I wanted to say about this experience. But now, I think I’m ready to share some of the things that I liked about this community and maybe, even share a part of the internal struggle I was going through.
Last summer, the husband and I visited GK Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan for a Bloggers Weekend. Our conversations at home usually include ideation on the different ways that we can use visual notes, graphic recording, art, and design to help find a way to solve the different problems that ail our country, so we thought that this was a great opportunity to reach out. It was our last full day in Japan so we wanted to tick everything that we could off our checklist, and that meant going on a free day again with just the husband. But only after visiting the Pokemon Center with the rest of the family. Pokemon’s not really our thing, but the husband and my brother wanted to take a look.
